The Town of Glastonbury will begin improvements to the Welles-Turner Memorial Library parking lot in early November. Construction is expected to continue for approximately three weeks.
The project will modify the Library’s driveway entrance to improve traffic flow and make it easier and safer for vehicles to enter and exit. The work includes shifting the driveway entrance west, reconfiguring the existing traffic island, repaving portions of the driveway, and making several pedestrian access improvements.
The Library will remain open during construction, and regular hours and scheduled programs will continue.
Construction Schedule
The work will take place in two phases:
● November 4, 5, or 6: The Town will begin the initial phase of work. The rear parking lot and rear entrance will be closed for one day, then temporarily reopen between phases. Patrons should expect gravel and other temporary conditions in the lot during this period.
● Beginning around November 9: Contractors are expected to begin the next phase of work. The rear parking lot and rear entrance will remain closed until the project is complete, anticipated by November 25.
During the extended closure, patrons should enter the Library through the Main Street entrance. The rear entrance facing the construction area will be closed for safety.
Alternate Parking Options
During periods when the rear parking lot is closed, patrons can use available public parking:
● Along Main Street
● At the Park & Ride lot on Welles Street behind St. Paul’s Church
● At other nearby municipal lots.
Additional information about accessible parking will be provided once arrangements are confirmed.
