From the Friends...

The Friends of Welles-Turner Library recently held their Fall Book Sale and raised over $23,078, with an additional $2,400 in sponsorships from generous local businesses, for a total of $25,478. These funds are used to support many literacy and cultural programs at the library, which are enjoyed by the Glastonbury community.

A sale of this size cannot be accomplished without the tireless efforts of many people, and we are so fortunate to live in a town where volunteers and donations all contributed to an amazing sale.

Many people in our community provided time, effort, and support to ensure the success of the sale. Lisa Zerio and Liz Gambacorta at Parks and Recreation and Greg Barnett and the staff at Facilities Maintenance were amazing partners. They answered our questions, coordinated various pieces, and helped with setup. We also appreciate the support and assistance of Amy Cadieux, Director at Welles-Turner Library, and her staff. The GHS Boys Soccer Team, with the support of their coach K.C. Warren, did an amazing job moving our inventory to Academy School. Thank you to Marc Okun and members of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Local 326, who donated their time and energy to move boxes within Academy. They did an outstanding job for us.

We are also grateful to the many local businesses who sponsored the Fall Book Sale:
Gold sponsors: Brown Paindiris & Scott LLP, Capital Wealth Management, DQ Grill & Chill Restaurant, and Little Acres Farm Market.
Silver sponsors: Bussa Orchards, Cofiell's Sport and Power Equipment Glastonbury, Mulryan Funeral Home, and River Bend Bookshop.

Thank you to Brown Butter Creations, Dunkin’ (3040 Main Street), Glastonbury Blvd. Stop & Shop, Oak Street Stop & Shop, SliceWorks, and Whole Deli, who provided refreshments for our hardworking volunteers. Trader Joe’s generously donated bags for our “bag sale.” Thank you for supporting us!

The Friends would also like to thank our many volunteers, both young and adult, who worked tirelessly throughout the sale. GHS Key Club students donated their time and helped in numerous ways. With the support of Coach Mark Landers, the Glastonbury High School Girls Soccer Team enthusiastically helped us clean up. In addition, even more volunteers joined us Monday morning for our final cleanup project. We appreciate the efforts of all our volunteers.

Finally, we are grateful to all the patrons who came and enjoyed the book sale.

Our donation house will re-open on Saturday, September 20.
