Due to Connecticut State Library delivery limitations, the library must suspend local book club support until further notice. In the meantime, the Reference Department is available to assist members of community book clubs in locating available copies of items to be picked up at the owning libraries. We regret this inconvenience and will let you know as soon as we have more information.

Burbio.com is a free community-building service that streams all library, school and non-profit events together in one place through a web site, iOS app and Amazon Alexa. Currently, the Welles-Turner Memorial Library calendar, as well as those from the local schools, are available. Expect other non-profits to be added in the school year.

Get ready to exercise your mind and body with a gentle yoga class led by instructor Bharti Nagpal of Sacred Rivers Yoga. With her love of storytelling, Bharti brings the class to life by mixing Yoga philosophy with a gentle yet rejuvenating yoga practice. Ella Waters Concert Series: Classical Guitarist Francesco Barone

Who: Adults
When: Saturday, November 30, 2019

Francesco Barone will present a recital of guitar music from Eastern and Western Europe. The first half of the program will feature the music of Western Europe, including Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Tarentella as well as lute suite by Johann Sebastian Bach, whose works are known to represent the regional styles Italy, France and Germany. The second half will include music of Eastern Europe, including the Ballads Suite by Russian composer Nikita Koshkin. Seating is limited, so reservations are required starting November 2, online or at the library’s Reference Desk at 860-652-7720.

The music series is presented by the Friends of Welles-Turner Memorial Library and Welles-Turner Memorial Library in memory of Isabella Waters, who was a generous library supporter.

About Francesco Barone: Francesco Barone has performed throughout the Northeast United States and in Italy as a soloist and chamber musician. He has been featured on a La Bella Strings sponsored concert, was a prizewinner in the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society Competition and has had performances broadcasted on NPR. He received a MM from and is a current DMA candidate at The Hartt School, where he studies under Professor Emeritus of Guitar Richard Provost and holds a BM from Temple University.

Bobcat ~ Connecticut’s Secretive Wild Cat

Master Wildlife Conservationist Paul Colburn will describe the natural history of bobcats in Connecticut; an overview of bobcat habitat, diet, behavior and reproduction; and current research efforts. Bobcat artifacts are shared with the audience. Mountain lions are also briefly discussed. About Paul Colburn: Paul Colburn is a 2015 graduate of the Master Wildlife Conservationist Program (MWCP) and a certified Master Wildlife Conservationist (MWC). The MWCP is a Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) adult education program that trains volunteers in the fields of wildlife management, natural history and interpretation. Mr. Colburn has provided over 200 wildlife presentations across the state and participated in several wildlife research projects.

About the presenter: Anastasia Climan graduated from The University of Connecticut's Coordinated Undergraduate Program with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2011. After intense coursework, an internship and licensing exam, she became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She has been in practice for over eight years. In 2015, Anastasia became an award-winning Health & Wellness Coach for a major insurance corporation, providing telephonic counseling to individuals throughout the country. After four years in this role, she moved on to pursue direct patient care at LivingWell Primary Care in Bloomfield, along with writing projects and speaking presentations. Beyond nutrition, Anastasia is trained in tobacco cessation, stress management, depression screening, healthy sleep habits and behavior change. Anastasia specializes in Motivational Interviewing - guiding clients to move past resistance, discover personal incentives and take action to achieve measurable goals. Her favorite part of being a dietitian is getting to know her clients and designing tailored solutions to fit their unique lifestyles.

Celebrate Get Organized Month with Sarah Soboleski, LCSW, a social worker and professional organizer. Participants will learn proven steps for tackling any home organizing challenge, explore the pros and cons of the Konmari Method, and undergo an assessment of their organizing habits.

About the presenter: Sarah Soboleski, LCSW is a therapist and professional organizer. She is the owner of Classically Organized and provides therapeutic decluttering and organizing support to persons struggling with chronic disorganization and hoarding behaviors. Sarah is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Institute for Challenging Disorganization, the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO), and is currently serving as Immediate Past President of NAPO-CT. She has appeared on WFSB’s "Better Connecticut" and been featured on NBC-CT.

Thru Hiking the Appalachian Trail

Sam Ducharme set out on a 2180-mile, 14-state backpacking trip from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin, Maine.

During his six-month journey, he documented the rugged beauty of the Appalachian Mountains, the wildlife, the hardships encountered on the trail, as well as the people, culture and humanity at its finest. Come join him as he takes you through the trail towns, over the mountaintops and through the backcountry. The images and stories will leave you with a renewed awe of the beauty of our country and its people. See his gear, how he cooked, and hear what it is like sleeping in a hammock for six months through three seasons. Signed copies of Sam’s book, Sole Searching on the Appalachian Trail, will be available for purchase after the program. About the presenter: Sam Ducharme is a retired K9 Officer and a lifelong resident of Connecticut. He has two adult sons, both serving in the United States Air Force. As an avid outdoorsman, and finding the empty nest, Sam decided to buy a backpack and a plane ticket to Georgia. From there, he started walking north. With no prior backpacking experience, he learned on the trail. Gear, trail nutrition, enduring the elements, and the logistics involved in a long-distance backpacking trip were hard lessons. After 20 years working within Connecticut’s prisons, the search for a positive recharge resulted in a life changing journey.
